These are healthy, sprouted sunchoke plants (Jerusalem artichokes) grown naturally in my own garden.

Each piece comes with visible roots and active green growth, ready to be planted directly into soil. Unlike dormant tubers, these are already awake and growing, making them a great choice for gardeners who want a strong start.

My sunchokes are grown without synthetic chemicals, following natural, home garden practices.

Sunchokes are a hardy perennial vegetable known for their vigorous growth and ability to return year after year once established. They are well suited for home gardens and can thrive with minimal care.

Growing notes:
Plant directly in soil with good drainage and sunlight. These plants are very resilient and will continue growing after planting.

The name Jerusalem artichoke is a misnomer: the plant is not related to the artichoke, though the sunchoke’s flavor may be reminiscent of the artichoke. The plant is not from Jerusalem: the name is probably derived from the Italian name for sunflower, girasole, which means turning to the sun.

Plant sunchokes in full sun. The sunchoke prefers loose, well-drained soil but will grow almost anywhere.

Planting and spacing. Plant sunchoke tubers 2 to 6 inches deep, 12 to 18 inches apart. Space rows 36 inches apart.

Companion plants. Corn, rhubarb, peanuts. Avoid planting sunchokes with tomatoes.
